The McKenzie Method:

A New Way to Treat Chronic Pain

The McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT)

Chronic pain that results from repetitive stress, degenerative diseases, arthritis, and other musculoskeletal problems is one of the biggest reasons for medication overuse in society today.

When treating patients with chronic pain, we often employ the McKenzie Method, a series of steps designed to help eliminate pain and keep it from coming back. Unlike other conventional methods, the McKenzie Method does not involve medications, injections, or even hot/cold pack therapy. In fact, most times diagnostic imaging (like X-Rays and MRIs) aren’t even necessary.

Instead, the McKenzie Method relies on a fundamental understanding of how the musculoskeletal system functions, identifying areas of dysfunction, and training your body to heal the problem on its own.

What Is a Chiropractic Adjustment and How Can It Help?

Our 4-Step Approach to a Pain Free Life

1. Evaluate

After listening to you describe your pain in detail, we’ll perform a comprehensive assessment to identify the problem. We will ask you to move the affected area in certain ways, sometimes repeatedly, with the goal of uncovering the source of the dysfunction

2. Diagnose

Based on our observations, we’ll establish a baseline level of function and discomfort, and work with you to create a treatment plan that will help improve both.

3. Treat

The core of the McKenzie method is your willingness to participate fully in the treatment. We’ll assign a series of exercises that you will be asked to perform several times per day, and check in with you once or twice a week to see how you’re progressing.

4. Prevent

We give you the tools you need to stay healthy and prevent future pain and injuries.

The McKenzie Method isn’t right for everyone, but for those struggling with chronic pain, it can be a life-changing (and money saving) pain management technique.
